Read on to find out how to measure a ring easily and effectively

Ring sizes: which to choose?

Women’s and men’s ring sizes can present a difficulty when you have identified the perfect piece of jewelry but cannot figure out exactly which size may be best. Let’s start with a very important concept: ring fit, in part, is subjective. This means that, depending on preference, a person might choose to wear a ring that is slightly large or slightly tight. The easiest solution, consequently, is to bring along a habitually worn ring (possibly of similar shape and thickness to the jewelry you intend to buy) to make a simple comparison.

When this isn’t possible, however, some useful suggestions can still be put into practice that can make the choice much easier and more exact.

Men’s and women’s ring sizes: all hands and rings are not the same!

To correctly choose a ring we must always remember that not a single hand is identical to the other, including when those hands belong to the same person: the dominant hand, for example, generally has larger fingers than the other one. For this reason, a ring that is usually worn on a finger of the right hand may not fit on the same finger of the left hand. With the changing seasons and temperatures, moreover, it is possible that the thickness of the fingers will also vary considerably-that is why the size of a summer ring and a winter ring might be different.

Even the model and style of the ring are decisive in choosing the correct size. In fact, rings of the same size but different types may fit the finger slightly differently. For example, it is preferable that a band style be at least one size larger than a thin shank ring.

Remember: your ring should be snug enough not to fall off and loose enough to slip over the knuckle. If you hesitate between two sizes, always choose the larger one!

Men’s and women’s ring sizes: some cautions not to get it wrong!

Is your hand too cold or too hot? You may get an inaccurate reading when you measure the diameter of the ring size!

Your fingers are at least half a size smaller when your hand is too cold and larger when it is too warm. Measure your finger preferably at the end of the day and repeat the measurement 3 to 4 times to eliminate erroneous results.

If the knuckle is larger than the base of the finger, measure both the knuckle and the base of the finger and select the larger size between the two.

Also remember that if you purchase a larger ring because of a large knuckle, it may happen that the ring will spin. In such cases request a consultation directly from us! We have the solution to fit any ring to size! How? By adding small dots that hold it in place. This way you won’t have to give up that ring you really like but isn’t the right size!

Ring size guide: find out how to measure!

If to find out the size of a ring that is already in our possession it is enough to measure its diameter with a ruler, to get the right size from the circumference of the finger it is necessary to use a dressmaker’s tape measure and compare the result obtained with the ring sizes in cm that characterize the different sizes available.

Here’s how to do it:

  • How to take the measurement of a ring: if you already own a ring that fits you perfectly, the easiest thing is to arm yourself with a ruler and measure its inner diameter, that is, the maximum width of the circle, by connecting any point on the ring with the one that is exactly on the opposite side.
  • How to measure finger by ring: in this case, to identify your size from scratch you will need to gently wrap your finger (without squeezing!) with a soft tape measure and consult a standard ring size chart such as the one below.
  • Another method for finding out the right ring size: this time through the use of a thread! Take a thread and wrap it around the finger whose size you want to know. Draw a line where the thread joins using a pencil or pen. Unwind the thread and measure the length between the two points using a ruler.
